The Kobolds - Part 3

Me and Ozric closed on the nearest enemy while Vistra took a potshot cracking the nearest of the two kobolds facing caspian on the neck. Ozric soon finished off our enemy while vistra hammered down on the one nshe had just hit. Caspian valiantly fought against the other. Ozric with his rougish elements snuck up behind the one Vistra had and squarely jabbed him in the back making him crumple to the floor.

With that the remaining kobold legged it just as Rhogan arrived and called upon Bahamut to heal Caspian his faithful servant.

I meanwhile had grabbed the statue from the plinth and failing to remember which god it was a symbol of I turned to see Vistra sprint after the kobold bashing it with a wild swipe as she got within range. With that I used my magehand to lob the statue squarely hitting the kobold over the head, dazing him slightly and then my confidence failed me as I was conjuring my Magic Missile when Ozric dashed in and he must have hit some vital organ with that dagger as the final kobold sunk to the ground.

We rested up and as we did I picked up the slightly bloodied statue while Ozric's keen eyes spotted a pouch on the plinth. I passed the statue to Caspian who looked at it puzzled for moment and then announced "Nope, I must of been dozing when we did this one. The statue had 4 heads on 4 necks coming from a clump of rock at the bottom. Rhogan grabbed the statue from Caspian and after a moment said calmly "This is a symbolof Tiamat, the god of wealth."

"Of course" exclaimed Caspian "He encourages his followers to hoard wealth and spent little."

"So" chimed in Ozric "there may be more from where this came from" spilling a few gold pieces from the pouch.

"So Vistra as one of the underlings, do you think this is of kobold craft or something else" I asked of the statue

"hmm - roughly hewn, quite probably carved by these kobolds yes."

"Im going to scout ahead along this corridor" Ozric said pointing to the space the remaining kobold had been fleeing to.

About 3-4 minutes later the halfling returned exclaiming "A GAME! the kobolds are playing a ruddy game."

after a minute we managed too extract that the room was rectangular with 4 sarcophagi and a goo pit much like the first. At the friend was 2 10ft high platforms with a door in the middle, he guessed the way to the platforms was behind. The kobolds were engaged in a game of knock the skull off the coffin with a pendulum which seemed to be a largish piece of masonry on a rope. He also said that there appeared to be two kobolds on each platform.

We formulated a plan. Rhogan would charge in followed by Ozric and Vistra who would rush the door, Caspian would snipe at them with his crossbow along with myself firing magic missiles. The scene was set and we definitely surprised them as the paladin roaring charged out of the corridor I saw Ozric follow and Vistra move before Caspian charged out I followed close behind and just dodging out the door saw Rhogan bracing himself to bash through the door. I fired a magic missile at one that seemed to be aiming his sling at Ozric but unfortunately missed. and sadly there were no weighty statues to throw within this room.

Rhogan bashed through the doorway and as he did he roared "You cant take me kobold!" Vistra followed as Ozric got struck by a sling stone and turned upon his antagonist throwing a dagger from his waist right into its side causing it to cringe. I glanced back at Caspian who just narrowly ducked under the flying piece of masonry which struck the wall behind him falling out of its makeshift sling.

I stepped towards the platforms breaking my cover and firing once again this time making contact with my opponent who having just fired at Ozric grabbed a javelin from behind him and started to aim upon me I could hear sounds of battle ensuing from the corridor ahead, I then got nicked by a javelin and fired upon the guy again but Ozric beat me to the puch hitting him in the throat with his dagger causing him to fall backward. I then turned my attention to his friend further back who continued to throw javelins - some making contact some not as Ozric claimed another and he fell forwards off of the platform. Caspian continued his bad luck as I heard a twang as his crossbow string come flying off of its mounts

Ozric and me claimed the third as a dagger and a magic missile struck at the same time casing the kobold to do a half forward flip as my missile struck its legs. The fourth darted away from the ledge but not before Caspian finally scored a hit and turning to face its antagonist it got another of Ozric's daggers in it's throat. I mentally reminded myself never to face him in a dagger throwing contest, and we advanced overtaken by Caspian who rushed forward.

As I came to the middle of the room and could see the corridor ahead I saw a dead kobold and a dead strange fiery skinned creature. Rhogan continued to strike at the other deftly knocking its mouth and vicious looking teeth away with his shield. Just then a kobold dressed in robes with a staff came round the corner with 2 more fighter looking kobolds. Rhogan screamed "I challenge you in the name of Bahamut" while brandishing his sword at the kobold in robes, then as an icy ball hit him fell to the ground.

Vistra stepped up to the front and deftly deflected blows aimed at her and the fallen dragonborn. Just as the 2 guards began to run towards us the creature went all out and reared up attacking Vistra, I quickly released a magic missile at it hitting it and maintaining its upwards position for just long enough that Vistra could retrieve a dagger and stab it into its gut. As it fell dead she and Caspian braced themselves and Ozric seeing no gap for him ran up the ramp leading to the left platform aside the now ruined door. Taking a run he somersaulted across the 8ft gap and landing on his feet ran away on the right hand side platform.

I stepped out to get a better view of the kobolds and as I did I saw Ozric once again dart out and as the mage disappeared back round the corner he sunk his blade deep into the first guards back. It crumpled and its opponent didnt last long against the combined assault of me, Vistra, Caspian and Ozric.

With that we urned and Caspian dug out his bandages and praying began to bind Rhogans wounds.

The Kobolds - Part 2

I surveyed the scene. Rhogan had dispatched the last enemy over the other side of the trench and so I turned the corner and seeing a kobold on the other side of a portcullis threw a magic missile at him. It seemed to hit and he stumbled. the halfling, (Ozric that's it), Ozric charged forward slipping past the bars and just as he approached him the kobold fell to the ground.
He stepped over to a lever and pulled it up and there was a grating sound and the portcullis raised. The dwarf meanwhile had wandered off towards a room off the main corridor with the trench. Caspian stepped forward to the now prone kobold by Ozric and attempted to patch him up but obviously pressed in the wrong spot as blood squirted out splattering his shoes as the kobold breathed its last. He then stepped on past Ozric.

Rhogan strode along the corridor passing the cleric and rogue and stepped out of sight round a corner. Then running along I passed even Rhogan and moved into a large room with 4 alcoves on the wall with the passage I left and and 4 on the opposite side, the nearest holding a suit of armour and then deftly as I saw my path into the nearest alcove on this wall blocked by a suit of armour stepped behind the towering paladin. Then suddenly I heard a 'tink' and 'squitgd' and green goo seemed to splatter Rhogan's feet. slowly the rest of our party filtered out into the room and Vistra the dwarf remained behind Rhogan inside the passage.

I stepped forward towards the four kobold figures but as I did the suit of armour to my left fired a dart at me which caught in my robes. I saw a stone figurine on a pedastal behind two of the kobolds and winked at it conjuring the sound of it falling onto the floor behind. All the kobolds turned towards the sound. The slinger seeing nothing was a miss twirled met my gaze and fired a pellet from his sling which impacted the coffin by the side of me I called back to Ozric "NOW! Nows your chance!".
He practically flew across the room and as he passed the suit of armour on the right hand side of the room a dart whizzed over his head impacting the wall opposite. He then made a mad lunge plunging his dagger into the back of the kobold in front of him who screamed turning to face him. Caspian advanced on the slinger throwing holy fire at him knocking him down. I heard sounds of grunting from behind me and as I turned I saw Rhogan struggling to free himself from the green goo.
Vistra strode forward and as a dart struck her as she stepped in line with the suit of armour, she swung a . . . a sling? firing a pellet she struck one of the spearmen who had just converged on Caspian. Ozric continued to battle the spearman he had stabbed. I strode over to Vistra and as I stepped next to her another dart 'trinked' off of her armour. I then threw a magic missile at the foe Ozric was fighting. Rhogan once again struggled against the goo as Caspian struck at the spearman still facing him after Vistra's stone distracted the other.

The Kobolds - Part 1

The midday sun barely broke the clouds. It wasn't cold but it wasn't exactly clear skies either. We stood, a strange group, in front of a trapdoor before the ruins of an old tower.

We had answered a call for help from a Shopkeeper in Farreltown. He had recently lost a wagon to increasingly bold and violent Kobolds including a green dragonhide which he was planning to make into a fine suit of scale armour. He had offered us 200gp each if we returned with the hide.

And so we found ourselves slowly heading down some stairs. The huge dragonborn paladin, Rhogan at the front followed by the party warrior, a dwarf, female unusually, next up was the rogue, halfling of course and I was followed by Caspian the one man who hadn't tried to chat me up so far. He was a cleric of Lathander and very certain of his faith. Me? well I trust in my own magic.

We walked down towards a strange eerie green glow coming from a trench of gooey looking stuff we were slightly entranced before suddenly a stone clanked against Rhogan's armour I looked ahead and saw two kobolds, one menacingly twirling a sling, the second brandishing a nasty looking spear. Immediately the dwarven female charged off into the fray round a corner followed swiftly by the halfling leaving me, Caspian and Rhogan on the stairs.

I threw an acid arrow at one whilst Caspian threw flames of holy fire at another as Rhogan charged off brandishing his longsword towards the one Caspian hit. He strode up to him brandishing his longsword slightly wonkily. Unfortunately he just slapped the guy with it due to the hasty draw. The kobold didn't take this lying down however and snaked his spear past the armour. He took it stoically and retaliated knocking the kobold down.

I advanced and threw another offensive spell pilum of fire at the other now in front of me. meanwhile I saw the dwarf and halfling in between two kobolds but as they seemed to be holding their own I concentrated on helping Rhogan who now challenged the second kobold in front of me, and advanced upon him.

As he did this to my right one of the kobolds withdrew from the melee with the halfling and the dwarf. As it did this the dwarf landed a blow and he retreated behind a portcullis.as the halfling turned on the other and rushed him into the gooey glowing stuff in the trench. Rhogan claimed the conciousness of his second and walked towards the trench looking down to the enemy below. . .
